This is my first attempt at a photoblog. I have been doing self-taught photography for most of my life. I hope you like this effort. Please click on the photos for enlargements.

A Blatant Advertisement for Vancouver 2010

Now that the Turin Olympics are over, it's time to set our sights on the next location. This photo was taken from the ski chalet at Grouse Mountain high above beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.

Footprints from "Cast Away"

Okay - IF I was on the set of the movie, and I walked on the beach, this is what it might have looked like (except for the guy in the background).

Fair's fair

This young lady may not be "America's Sweetheart", but she sure is mine. She feels fine but since her brother made the page, so does she.

A favour for my friend

One of my very best friends wasn't feeling well today. He had to stay home from school and so I thought I would put his picture here so he could see it and maybe feel better knowing that someone loves him very much.

The street of broken backs

I have a background in EMS so maybe it's my jaundiced eye that sees more than a picturesque street scene in this photo. I see potential for a slip, a fall, and me lying on my back on a snow covered-sidewalk, in the freezing cold, in another province, (where I am anything but fluent in the local language,) trying to explain my out-of-province health coverage to two paramedics who really don't want to carry my sorry butt to the hospital in the first place.
That rationale is why there is no photo from the top of the hill looking down.

Pardon my French

This is a photo of my Sweetie. She is complimenting me on my photographic skills and my ability to compose a photographic scene, select the proper f-stop (get the connection?), and the correct apeture for a properly lit and balanced photograph which takes into account, the foreground, midground and background.
Unfortunately, due to the high wind and the resonance from the chateau to my left, it may have come across to the people standing behind me as, "Just take the stupid picture, I'm freezing!" Which may have explained their impolite laughter.

Would you wear this to a wedding?

We stopped in a little boutique (see, I can speak French) in Quebec City and I noticed the really cool colours in this sweater. Then, I said to myself, where would I wear it? I couldn't think of anyplace, so I didn't buy it. I will always remember it with a certain fondness and will always recall that if I bought it, for one brief, shining moment, I could have been a standout. Well, if nothing else, you could have seen me coming. Or going. Or whatever.

A Photo of Our House

Someone sent me an email and asked for a photo of our house. I couldn't find one so I posted a photo of one just like it. This is the fabulous Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. It has a roof and walls just like my house. And that is where the similarity ends. This place has over 600 rooms. We have less than that. My house, however, is paid for.

I tried to call, honest!

My wife and I took the train to Quebec City for the weekend. It snowed. And snowed. And snowed. So now you know where I was and why I didn't get any photos uploaded.

I'm trying to think of a title but I'm stumped.

This is the "Cathedral of the Pines " on Vancouver Island.
A strong windstorm did some terrible damage.

Honey, have you seen my shoes?

The blue ones I wear outside in the garden. I'm sure I left them in the bedroom ysterday.
What do you mean, "have I looked on the deck?"

Metro Mirage

I took this standard postcard-like photograph and added a reflective mirage with a photo-editing software package. Since I already know it's fake, I'm not in a position to comment on it. I live to the right of the photo. About 30 miles to the right of the photo.

Happy little kid

Sometimes all it takes to be happy is to realize that you already have what you need. In this case, a bowl, a blanket and barefeet.

One day at an airshow...

I love this photo of an FA-18. He is turning so quickly on a hot summer's day that the condensation builds up on his wings and appears as clouds or smoke. It is a noisy photograph but as he was running at just over 100 feet, it was noisy on the ground too. Safety concerns made the organizers change the location. Why? Who knows.

Secret Revealed!

Modern digital photography shows exactly how the black lava in the Hawaiian Islands is ground into black sand. When the ducks think that no-one is watching, they run from the water and stomp the black rock into sand with their webbed feet. This amazing evidence has never been shown to the public before. Keep it under your hat!

The Raven and the Clam People

This is a photo of a huge, spectacular cedar sculpture by Bill Reid, located at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. It represents the legend of how people came to be on the earth. (For any Canadians seeing this, look on the back of your $20 bill, it is depicted on the lower left on the back of the bill.)
